REVIEW: You Soy Muslim - A Father's Letter to His Daughter

TITLE: Yo Soy Muslim - A Father's Letter to his Daughter
AUTHOR: Mark Gonzales
ILLUSTRATOR: Mehrdokht Amini
PUBLISHER: Salaam Reads / Simon & Schuster

FROM THE PUBLISHER: Dear little one ... know ou are wondrous. A child of crescent moons, a builder of mosques, a descendant of brilliance, an ancestor in training.

Written as a letter from a father to his daughter, Yo Soy Muslim is a celebration of social harmony and multicultural identities. The vivid and elegant verse, accompanied by magica and vibrant illustrations, highlight the diversity of the Muslim community as well as Indigenous identity. A literary journey of discovery and wonder, Yo Soy Muslim is sure to inspire adults and children alike.

SNIPPET:

There are questions we all ask when we are learning what it means to be human. Who invented my hands? Why wasn't I born with wings? And does the moon ever get lonely? T

There are questions this world will ask. What are you? And Where are you from?

MY THOUGHTS: I am rarely at a loss for words. However, the art is obviously eye-pleasing, modern and timeless at the same time. The publisher was able to say well in a short space what this beautiful text says for itself. Lusciously lyrical, illuminating and inspiring. Nothing much more for me to say, but that every word should be read by everyone.

RATING: 4 out of 5 Peas
